Building the Leadership of a Faith-Based Bank

Following new ownership, recruitment of a CEO, CRO, two Chairs and a CMO

The Challenge

Under new ownership, a bank with a mission to supply churches and Christian organisations with mortgages sought a visionary CEO. Following their appointment a CRO was quickly needed, and then over the course of two years, a CMO to support growth and new leadership at a non-executive level.

Our Approach

The key to the CEO appointment was to find someone either already holding an SMF regulated position, or with the skills, aptitude and willingness to qualify as such. The number of candidates who held or could quickly hold SMF roles and who were also aligned with the mission of the Bank was a limited pool. Within this field, we also needed someone with the emotional intelligence and vision to lead the Bank into a new chapter.

For the CRO, the potential range of candidates was even more limited. We investigated every PRA-registered CRO in the country to find the two who might consider the role, and then worked hard to build a relationship with them, supporting their consideration of the move.

Our Impact

The partnership we built through the CEO and CRO appointments equipped us with a deep understanding of the unique challenges the Bank faced. When it needed new chair of the Board and separately, also of its holding company, we were able to move swiftly into action. Continued growth has also led to our involvement in the appointment of a Chief Market Officer. The Bank continues to grow, accessing more customers and developing new products under refreshed leadership.
